State
of Indiana - SSI Advocacy
The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, Bureau
of Family Protection and Preservation, selected Sequoia Consulting
Group to screen children who are wards of the State for SSI
eligibility. If that child passes the screening requirements
then Sequoia Consulting Group will then prepare the Social
Security application forms, contact care givers for functional
information on potentially eligible children, advise FCMs on
the types and content of evidentiary material needed to support
a claim for eligibility and file the final application package
on behalf of the child. Sequoia Consulting Group will also
work on Continuing Disability Reviews, review applications
denied by the Disability Determination Bureau and file requests
for Reconsideration when appropriate.
Supplemental Security Income benefits can be an important source
of additional revenue to the State and Local Offices for the
care of children served by the child welfare system. These
benefits are 100% federally funded, can enhance adoption planning
efforts and help adoptive families qualify for the federal
Adoption Assistance program. They may also increase family
reunification efforts and shorten the amount of time a special
needs child remains in the Child Welfare system.
Family Case Managers are encouraged to complete the referral
form or contact the Sequoia Consulting Group
